App For That Web

Promote your app with video marketing

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past few years, you are probably aware that mobile apps are all the rage! Let’s get quickly in the think of it, and start with 3 key app statistics:

  • The total number of mobile app downloads in 2017 – 197 billion (a forecast) (Statista)
  • The average number of apps people use daily – 9 , monthly – 30 (TechCrunch)
  • As of March 2017, Android users were able to choose between 2.8 million apps. Apple’s App Store remained the second-largest app store with 2.2 million available apps (Statista)

Apps have brought a major change in the way businesses operate and relate to customers. If you don’t already have one, creating an app for your business is an exciting step forward, and it could be a very rewarding one!
Before creating the app, you probably asked yourself:

  • Who’s my audience (demographics)?
  • What do they do (habits)?
  • How can we help them (improve their experience)?
  • What are our USPs?
  • Etc.

An app is almost just like another product you are offering your consumers, and when it comes to market it, you should promote it like one too. You want to leave a positive impression, instigate curiosity and motivate consumers to find out what’s in there for them.

Video has become a meaningful part of the marketing strategy, “it’s a powerful way to communicate your brand story, explain your value proposition and build relationships with your customers and prospects.” (Hubspot)

Including a video on a landing page can increase conversion rates by 80%

Over 55% of videos are being watched on mobile devices. So when it comes to promoting your phone app, it’s a no-brainer –> the best way to grab the attention of a mobile user is to go video!

Video is the closest thing to experiencing something firsthand. You can show your app in the best light, talking your consumer through some of its best features.

Promoting your app video doesn’t have to be expensive. In fact, if used correctly, here are three inexpensive ways to promote your video.

  • On your website home page

Still too many business lose on opportunities because of high bounce back rate. Don’t be one of them, and make sure that once visitors land on your website, they stay there and will hopefully engage with your brand.

People should instantly be able to locate what they are looking for. Keywords, big titles and a well-made videos will be much more efficient than hard-to-digest, text-heavy content. In just a few seconds, the video on your landing page should demonstrate that:

  • You understand your visitor’s problem
  • You have a solution to offer
  • Call to action: they need to take the suggested step (sign up now / download our app)
  • Via Social media

Video is literally dominating social media: there’s no way around it. So whatever industry you’re in, produce a video on your app, and let it get unmatched exposure on an array of social platforms. Customers and prospects can quickly view it as they scroll through their feeds.

If you are using Facebook ads, videos auto-play silently until the user taps on the video (mind you, this might change in a near future). So keep that in mind: keywords and striking visual are a must! We recommend keeping videos short. Why not re-purpose a longer (homepage) video and create short teaser edits?

If you are opting for YouTube pre-roll skippable ads, then make sure the first 5 seconds count and convey your message (+ include a CTA).

  • On the App store or on Google play

The Apple App Store don’t refer to the videos on the store as “video adverts” (that would come across as too hard-selling) instead they call them “App Previews”.

There are some strict guidelines about what classes as a “preview”. These guidelines, however, are not incompatible with a visually-appealing video that is engaging for your viewers! So make sure to hire a video production company who is aware of all Apple’s requirements beforehand.

Google Play the official app store for Android smartphones and tablets) has fewer restrictions. With Google Play, you don’t upload the video directly like you do in the App store, but you host your video through YouTube. And, wait for it… views on Google Play count toward views on YouTube. Incidentally, views on YouTube usually means a better ranking in Google search results ⇒ Ta-dah!

If you are excited about an awesome app for your business, make sure to reach people who will get as excited as you are about it. And the best way to convey your message is with a great video. Now you are also acquainted with three places to easily promote your marketing video.
